Les Voltes

Les Voltes, apartment or rural house (tourist accommodation with a license from the Government of Catalonia), is located on the noble floor (with ceilings 3.6 meters high) of a house built partly on a small porch, the 'voltes' (arches), from the 14th century (or maybe earlier). This interesting architectural element, formerly known as 'les Voltes d'Gratapalles', is part of the protected local heritage catalog of Catalonia. Therefore, we wanted the accommodation we offer to be at the level of the porch on which it rests, and we have worked intensively for three years on its renovation to achieve this. We started with the idea of creating a space in which we ourselves would be delighted to live: practical and functional, but at the same time, with all the charm and history it holds. For example, we have converted the old kitchen into a bathroom: where the pantry was, we now have a modern shower and a toilet that are separated from the rest of the bathroom by a sliding glass partition. In the laundry area, we have preserved the late 18th-century tiles and the original marble sink from the old kitchen, which has been renovated to comply with current hygiene standards. On the other hand, we have managed to remove multiple layers of paint from both the beams and the doors, revealing wood in excellent condition. The rooms are practical and comfortable, of course, but we have preserved the charm of the original rustic tile flooring, with the curious relief that time has given them. In one of the rooms, we have left a wall uncovered with the original mural painting that we discovered under layers of paint, which is probably over 200 years old. In the kitchen, there is a Silestone countertop with a 90 cm gas hob, a powerful and silent extractor hood, and an electric oven, all from quality brands. In the cabinets, you will find everything you need to prepare and serve a special meal, and you can garnish your dishes with herbs from the balcony on the side of the kitchen: what more could you ask for?! Speaking of balconies... The apartment has four balconies: two in the living room-kitchen-dining area and one in each bedroom. If you feel like it, you can enjoy spectacular views or have a barbecue on the terrace, above the apartment.
